Introduction
BGANZ Regional Groups operate in New Zealand, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. They have evolved over time informally and in October 2009 the BGANZ constitution was amended to formally recognise them. You can see the Regional Group Regulations under 'About BGANZ'.
The Groups' purpose is to provide local member networks and contacts for mentoring, support and capacity building, with activities and meetings operating at a more frequent, and detailed level (BGANZ congresses are held only every two years). They do not represent jurisdictions but are intended to be inclusive and open to all participants regardless of location. South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not have regional groups as they do not have a critical mass of members, however can participate in any regional group meetings/workshop. For example the Queensland regional group may be a relevant and appropriate network for gardens in northern NSW. And in the same way, the Victorian group may be a useful network for gardens in both Tasmania and South Australia.
Regional conferences
Regional groups have their own meetings and conferences and where these are relatively large (e.g. NSW) these take place in the alternate years to BGANZ congresses.
Regional conferences are intended to provide practical learning, networking and capacity building opportunities and discuss regional issues as well as placing big picture issues in the regional context.
