Tropical Talk forum

The Tropical Talk forum was developed as a way of connecting horticulturalists around the world who work in a similar role - namely, those growing tropical plants for public display, including those in Botanic Gardens and similar organisations.
While this is the primary target audience, Tropical Talk acknowledges the magnificent contribution to the public knowledge of tropical plants that private growers and like minded groups provide, and also welcomes people from these wider areas.

AUSTRALIAN BOTANIC GARDENS WEED NETWORK (ABGWN)
WEED RISK ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE AND MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE (WRAPM)

The WRAPM is a software package, developed by the ABGWN together with the Australian Weed Management CRC, that scores weed risk for a particular plant growing in your area.

It includes: the endorsed ABGWN Weed Policy; inbuilt databases of plants appearing on Australia's major weed lists (WONS, CALEW and noxious weeds declared in all States) as well as a list of over 3000 plants known to be naturalised in Australia; a list of plants with known health risks; a suite of web sites that can be used within the program to assist in building up the weed risk score; a compendium of native plants that are known to hybridise (to assist in assessing the likelihood of gene pool pollution of local native plants); a suggested strategy for individual weed management based on the weed risk score obtained; a voluntary organisational weed management strategy.

All these files will be updated as more information becomes available.

Any suggestions for improvement of the program would be welcome, and a yearly review of the questions and information base is recommended.

There is inbuilt help for all the questions.

A manual will be sent to all members of the ABGWN.

The WRAPM can be downloaded as a blank executable file (14MB) to which you add your assessments. The more assessments you do, the fewer will have to be done in future. For any difficulties contact Roger Spencer.
