Submitted by bganz-admin on Thu, 01/19/2012 - 00:08
HORTICULTURIST (Horticultural Technician – Landscape)
Come and join our fun, hardworking, and dedicated team of horticulturists at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. We all share a passion for Australian native plants and this a very exciting time to join us with many opportunities to learn and contribute to the implementation of Australian Garden Stage 2 project. Established in 1970, the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne (RBGC) is dedicated to the conservation, display and enjoyment of Australian flora. Covering 363 hectares, the Cranbourne Gardens are a natural haven in a rapidly developing urban area. Two thirds of the site is remnant vegetation of state and regional significance, and is home to a number of endangered, vulnerable, and ‘at risk’ species of fauna and flora. The new Australian Garden (Stage 1) covers nine hectares of the site and provides a contemporary landscape display of Australia’s remarkable plants and landscapes. The second and final stage of the Australian Garden is currently under development and will open in 2012. In this varied and interesting role, you will participate in the horticultural and curatorial maintenance and management of the Australian Garden and other Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne horticultural landscapes. The role is responsible for the delivery of specialist horticultural tasks including the cultivation and maintenance of a diverse range of Australian plants and associated landscape displays, maintaining accurate records, planning and implementing a range of sustainable gardening practices such as effective irrigation management, plant selection, planting, plant establishment, and weed and pest control utilising integrated pest management principles. If you want to work with a close-knit team of passionate horticulturists, make a contribution to the building of a new botanic garden, and increase your knowledge of horticulture (having a good time doing it!), then we would love to hear from you.
Please send applications to recruit@rbg.vic.gov.au or mail to Royal Botanic Gardens, Private Bag 2000, Birdwood Avenue, South Yarra VIC 3141. For any enquires about this opportunity or to find out more about the role please contact
