Apprentice Horticulturist (Turf), Kings Park and Botanic Garden, WA

48 Month Fixed Term, Full-Time Opportunity

Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) Turf Apprentices undertake on-the-job learning alongside BGPA’s operational teams managing a world class Botanic Garden and parkland. Turf Apprentices will work to manage and maintain turf areas and parklands at Kings Park, while studying a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management through a nominated RTO.

Working as an Apprentice Horticulturist (Turf) involves frequent and often strenuous physical activity, as well as teamwork, and interpersonal and communication skills. The Turf Apprentice will work as part of a team in exposed environments and all weather conditions. Successful applicants will be required to pass a physical and medical assessment prior to appointment to ensure that they have the physical capabilities for the job.

Visitor Experience Officer, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced, positive and proactive Visitor Experience Officer to deliver memorable, inclusive experiences at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens and Queens Park. As the friendly, knowledgeable first point of contact, you’ll welcome visitors, manage bookings and enquiries, support programs and events, and create newsletters, posters, web and social media content that tell engaging stories about plants, people and place.

The successful applicant will have at least five years’ experience in visitor services, tourism, botanic gardens, horticulture, community engagement or communications, practical plant knowledge, and confidence creating digital content. A current Queensland Blue Card (or the ability to obtain one) and a class C driver licence are required.

Team Leader Nursery Collections, Ballarat Botanical Gardens

Permanent, Full-Time Opportunity

The City of Ballarat is seeking an experienced nursery professional to lead the team behind the Ballarat Botanical Gardens’ conservatory displays. The nursery produces and maintains more than 12,000 plants a year, including six documented collections and Ballarat’s renowned registered begonia collections. Leading a small team, you’ll propagate, grow and maintain the collections, then bring them to life in year-round conservatory displays, including the Begonia Display at the heart of the Ballarat Begonia Festival. The role also contributes to collection research and documentation, and to the Gardens’ plant database and its public interface, Garden Explorer.

The successful applicant will hold a Certificate III or equivalent in horticulture and have experience leading a team in a production nursery. You’ll also need broad expertise in nursery production and maintenance, strong communication skills, and a current driver’s licence.

Leading Hand, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Permanent, Full-Time Opportunity

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a hands-on horticultural professional to lead by example at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, which showcase more than 1,100 plant species from the Central Queensland Coast Bioregion and beyond. Working alongside the Team Leader, you’ll coordinate daily priorities, guide the botanic areas team, and deliver scheduled maintenance, horticultural displays, landscape improvements and the care of living plant collections.

The successful applicant will hold a qualification in horticulture or a related field and have at least 3–5 years’ experience in horticulture, parks maintenance or landscaping. You’ll also need experience planning and scheduling work, and strong communication and problem-solving skills. A current QLD C class driver licence, General Construction Induction Training and the other tickets listed in the position description are required.
