Celebrating the Power of Plants

Botanic Gardens Day is an annual day of celebration, to shed light on the role of plants in our lives and the important work botanic gardens undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.

On the last Sunday in May each year, this year on Sunday 30 May, more than 100 botanic gardens, arboreta and gardens across Australia and New Zealand will celebrate Botanic Gardens Day with their respective communities.

Gardens will host a series of activities (at their gardens or online) that promote the ‘Power of Plants’, specifically their influence on weather and climate stabilisation, their value as food, wildlife habitat, in research and medicine, and their impact on our wellbeing.

Join in the #plantchallenge

Share your love of plants — Tell your story

For the month of May, Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand Inc (BGANZ) #plantchallenge everyone to share their love for plants by posting a 30-60 second video to your/our Facebook page or upload a plant image to your Instagram page or other favourite platform with a short message about how plants influence your lives, using hashtags #plantchallenge and #BotanicGardensDay.

Spread the word: #plantchallenge others to tell their plant story and stay tuned as we celebrate the #powerofplants through your shared stories!

We look forward to seeing and hearing all your #plantchallenge responses in 2021! #plantchallenge begins 1 May and will end on Botanic Gardens Day 30 May with a live Botanic Gardens, Panel Discussion hosted by Costa Georgiadis.

Head to Botanic Gardens Day Facebook @BotanicGardensDay  like, comment and/or share, Instagram @bganz1 , Twitter @BGANZ1 and YouTube accounts to follow and share our posts.
