Cooktown Botanic Garden

Dear BGANZQ Members and Non-Members,

Please mark your diaries. The 2020 BGANZQ Biennial Conference will be held in Cooktown in conjunction with Cooktown Expo 2020 (https://cooktown2020.com/). It will commence on the afternoon of Wednesday 22 July 2020 with garden tours and welcome drinks. The main program will run from Thursday 23 – Friday 24  July 2020. Presentations/discussions will cover the following topics*:

  • Ex Situ Conservation in Botanic Gardens
  • The importance of Herbarium collections: Should my Gardens have a Herbarium?
  • Botanic Gardens Plant Record Management System – update
  • Discussion: Challenges facing our Botanic Gardens
    • standardised labelling
    • location
    • national or state nomenclature
    • etc
  • Gardens by the Bay – Special Presentation
  • Managing specialised plant collections
  • Banks and Solander
  • Processing  voucher specimens for herbaria
  • Plant Biosecurity in Botanic Gardens

Registration cost: $150 a head this includes morning teas, lunches and drinks and canapés on the Thursday evening.

Accommodation: Hotel and Motel accommodation is sold out in Cooktown however a number of great options are available. If you are driving you can bring own Campervan and stay at one of the camping and caravan sites listed on https://cooktown2020.com/plan-your-trip/.   Don’t have a campervan how about staying in Tent City.
