BGANZ Ltd Announces the Appointment of Hayley Allen as Chair of the Board
On July 1, 2022 BGANZ Inc, became BGANZ Ltd. Hayley Allen is appointed as BGANZ Chair, effective 24 November 2022.
Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) is the peak member network representing the interests of botanic gardens in our region. BGANZ aims to support member gardens in achieving their objectives in plant conservation, public engagement and providing inspiring botanical landscapes for the well-being of our communities and the planet.
BGANZ Ltd recently completed a transition from an incorporated association, marking an important step in its evolution into a major international plant conservation organisation. As part of this, BGANZ is pleased to today announce the appointment of Hayley Allen as Chair of its Board of Directors.
“I am honoured to have been appointed as the Chair of the BGANZ Board, taking over from interim Chair Chris Russell,” said Allen. “BGANZ is uniquely positioned to progress the interests of botanic gardens and their members across Australia and New Zealand. The role of botanic gardens has never been more vital given the challenges of climate change, habitat destruction and the global pandemic. Botanic gardens are loved and respected across Australia and New Zealand and I look forward to leveraging our strategic networks of stakeholders to better support the BGANZ network, based on the united desire to educate about our plants, and the great work our gardens do. Plant conservation remains the main focus of our botanic gardens and communicating this value, and the broader benefits of our beautiful gardens to the wider community is paramount, especially now.
I extend my thanks to Chris Russell for his great work as Interim Chair and look forward to working closely with the BGANZ Board and our dedicated and passionate members and volunteers.”
“This is a significant moment in the history of our organization. I’m grateful to Chris Russell, interim Chair, and previous BGANZ presidents for their vision, dedication, and passion which led to this moment,” said Eamonn Flanagan, Chief Executive Officer. “Equally, I am excited for what the future holds under Hayley’s leadership. Hayley brings a wealth of non-profit and for-profit success and strategic vision to our organisation, which will be critical as we take our next steps.
