Botanic Gardens Webinar Series: It’s all about the plants! Botanic gardens and their plant collections

Wednesday 10 May 10am – 12pm AEST

As a part of Botanic Gardens Month, the BGANZ Collections and Records Management group (BCARM) are hosting a webinar focused on living collections management in botanic gardens (of all shapes and sizes).

Come along and hear from some great presenters and be updated on an exciting BCARM project, the review of the BGANZ Living Collections Toolkit.

The session will be a combination of presentations, case studies and a Q & A panel discussion.

Andrea Proctor is a landscape architect, horticulturist and lecturer, with nearly twenty years’ experience with leading landscape architecture firms and Victorian institutions such as the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. She has worked on a huge range of public and private projects, including many regional botanic gardens.

Andrea will be presenting on the revision of the BGANZ Living Collections Toolkit. BCARM have been working with Andrea and two other designers to develop an instructive and interactive web-based tool designed to help guide how collections are developed, managed and evaluated. We are all super excited to be able to preview the toolkit as part of this webinar.

Emma Simpkins is the Senior Regional Advisor (Flora) at Auckland Council. She has worked in botanic gardens and conservation of threatened plants for 10 years. Emma was the founding Chair of BCARM and was a key contributor in a series of collections-based workshops at the 7th Global Botanic Gardens Congress in September 2022. Emma will present and discuss some of the themes and findings from the Congress workshops.

Damian Wrigley has recently been appointed to the role of Manager, Living Collections & Conservation, Botanic Gardens Sydney. Damian will share his vision for this new and exciting role, which is focused on advancing the Botanic Gardens Sydney conservation programs across their three gardens at Mount Annan, Mount Tomah and Sydney.

We also have John Sheely (Warrnambool Botanic Gardens), Kellee Reissinger (Geelong Botanic Gardens) and Dale Arvidsson (Brisbane Botanic Gardens) joining the webinar. They will discuss aspects of managing their gardens’ plant collections.
