Webinar 2: Connecting to Country in Botanic Gardens
In our second webinar, we will hear about the different ways that botanic gardens connect individuals personally to the lands they are visiting, living or working on. It is only through understanding and knowledge that we begin to protect and care for the world around us.
Renate is an experienced guide at the Alice Springs Desert Park on Mparntwe Country in the Northern Territory. She connects individuals to Country by sharing her knowledge of the lands she grew up, and works on, educating visitors about the plants and animals that live there and their cultural uses (e.g. bush medicine, bush tucker).
Jade is a horticulture trainee on the Wadjuk Noongar lands of Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth, Western Australia. She really enjoys reconnecting with her Yamatji Nhanda heritage through her traineeship, where she is gaining valuable knowledge about plants, people and places.
Blake is a Sports Turf apprentice at Kings Park. He loves being able to help maintain the grounds and has a keen interest in how all plants interconnect to provide inspiring landscapes. He has Yamatji heritage with Noongar ties and finds being able to live and work on Noongar Country and contribute in some way to the maintenance of this land that is so special to so many people is very rewarding.
