Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is the largest botanic garden in the country and a scientific hub, spanning 416 hectares and showcases a unique and vast array of Australian native flora on Dharawal land.

Located in South Western Sydney, this huge green space offers many ways to unwind: relax at one of the picnic areas with free barbecues, take a walk or cycle on one of the many tracks or let the kids run wild across one of our wide open lawns. If you pay attention, you might even spot some of our local wildlife or native birds.

Over 2,500 native species thrive across this landscape, with specific areas of the garden showcasing wattle, banksia and Grevillia and the critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland. Don’t miss the annual wildflower displays in the Connections Garden, curated by a dedicated team of conservation horticulturalists: the paper daisies are a sight to behold! Inspired to start your own garden? Shop for a great range of native plants propagated by skilled volunteers from the Garden’s living collection at Growing Friends Plant Sales.

Mount Annan is also home to the Australian Institute of Botanical Science, with the world-class scientific facilities of the Australian PlantBank and National Herbarium of New South Wales situated here. The Herbarium is one of the largest in Australia. It houses a vast collection of plant specimens from all over Australia, the Pacific region and worldwide, and in 2025 we made the whole collection of over 1 million specimens available to access digitally through our online search portal.

There’s always something happening at our largest garden: the best way to explore it all is on a self-guided walk, or a tour with one of our knowledgeable guides.

The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is part of the Botanic Gardens of Sydney. Encompassing three world-leading botanic gardens, Australia’s premier botanical research facilities, and Sydney’s leading outdoor activation precinct with The Domain Sydney, our sites boast a vast array of natural landscapes and curated plants, each spotlighting unique collections that feature over 11,900 plant species from Australia and across the globe.
