Karwarra ANBG, set on two hectares at the picturesque Kalorama in The Dandenong Ranges, is devoted to displaying the diversity of Australian plants in a landscape setting. At any time of year there are colourful flowers in numerous garden beds giving boundless inspiration for those looking to create their own garden using Australian plants.

The garden also provides habitat for local wildlife including many different types of birds, butterflies, insects and frogs. Echidnas, wombats, possums and native bush rats also call Karwarra ANGB home.

There is a registered collection of Boronia and Telopea (Waratah) with the Plant Trust (GPCAA) as well as significant collections of Epacris, Thomasia, Lasiopetalum, Pomaderris and many Rutaceae family. Karwarra ANBG also features a collection of Rare and Threatened plants.

Friends of Karwarra assist with the development of the garden including opening the garden at the weekend, where they greet visitors and assist with plants sales. They also assist in the Propagation Nursey, fund raising, promotions, exhibitions and events in Karwarra’s hall and Gallery space. Here exhibitions depicting Australian flora and fauna can be displayed. The hall is a great community space with a smart screen and a well-equipped kitchen.

Universities and TAFE horticultural students visit Karwarra ANBG to enhance their studies, including plant identification. There is also a well-stocked nursey with small tubes and pots for sale. There are free information brochures to advise you how to grow various plants.
