Located in Central West NSW, the Orange Botanic Gardens occupy a naturally undulating 17 hectares featuring an impressive collection of native Australian species and exotic plants from around the world.
Just a short drive from the city centre, this sprawling garden celebrates diversity with more than 1,000 species of plants, carefully curated into several different themed collections that exhibit the magnificent splendour of the four seasons of Orange.
Officially opened in 1988 for the Australian Bicentenary, the Orange Botanic Gardens are an ideal place in which to relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery and district views.
As well as being the perfect spot for bird watching and photography, the gardens’ open spaces offer the opportunity for a family picnic, or a relaxing stroll on its walking paths.
Follow the popular Country Walk around the constantly evolving garden and observe all the changing colours and textures of a varying landscape, revealing something new at every turn.
The walk includes the original homestead garden, a sensory garden, billabong, exotic and indigenous woodlands, Wollemi Pine plantation, and a heritage orchard and rose garden, set below the country church.
The garden also has a significant collection of outdoor sculptures, including works by some of Australia’s best-known sculptors including Bert Flugelman and Orest Keywan.
Barbecue facilities and children’s activities are available nearby at the newly renovated Orange Adventure Playground.
The garden is supported by the Friends of the Orange Botanic Gardens, a group of volunteers who assist through fundraising, plant stalls, hands-on projects and information events.
The Orange Botanic Gardens are open daily from 7:30 am to dusk at 300 Hill Street, Orange, and admission is free.
