Phillips Gardens is a small, picturesque garden located in the heart of Maryborough’s CBD. At the centre of the Garden is an ornamental lake surrounded by a walking track, picnic areas and pleasant lawn areas.
The 1.6-hectare garden features several large, established trees including a Lemon-Scented Gum, Camphor Laurel, several Plane Trees and a stand of English Oak. It is also home to a greenhouse full of tropical rainforest plants for visitors to admire.
Several elements within the Gardens are listed by the Victorian National Trust and include the Maryborough Southeast Asia Memorial and Corymbia citriodora, Lemon-Scented Gum.
The gardens are used by residents, visitors and community groups for general catch ups and formal gatherings. They provide an inviting open space area where visitors of all ages can enjoy grassed areas to sit on, take a stroll along the walking track or stop to enjoy watching the lake’s birdlife.
There are benches to sit on along with tables and chairs to enjoy lunch or coffee – all with the shade and tranquillity that this serene space provides.
The Gardens are also home to an internationally recognised StoryWalk. StoryWalks are a fun and educational activity that places a children’s story along a popular walking route. It’s a physical activity and a literary experience all in one.
