The Western Australian Botanic Garden is located within Kings Park in central Perth WA. Kings Park is situated on the lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
The WA Botanic Garden spans 18 hectares and is home to more than 3,000 of our State’s magnificent and unique flora
Our feature collections include the Conservation Garden, which houses around 400 of the State’s threatened and priority listed taxa, as well as Banksia, Verticordia, Boronia, Acacia and Northern Sandplains collections.
Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) manages a range of documented ex situ plant collections of Western Australian flora, including container collections within the production nursery and over 14,000 accessions banked onsite.
All plant collections are supported by an underpinning collections policy.
BGPA supports and contributes to the WA State Herbarium, and manages an on-site reference Herbarium to service the collections development functions of the WA Botanic Garden. Collections data are also shared with the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) project.
Together with Kings Park Science, our Horticulture teams undertake regular projects and trials in propagation and establishment, seed collection and processing, weed management and arboriculture of Western Australian species.
BGPA has also incepted a Regional Botanic Gardens network in Western Australia, bringing together interest groups from all over the State to provide guidance on establishing a botanic garden in their local area.
Kings Park Education provides nature-based education programs and learning experiences for WA school children, early years learning and the wider community.
Visitors can participate in:
- guided walks: the Kings Park Volunteer Guides provide free, daily guided walks of the WA Botanic Garden as well as Parkland and Bushland areas
- the Kings Park Everlasting Festival: each September sees a 17-day celebration of Western Australia’s biodiverse flora and ecological communities
