Wollongong Botanic Garden – Connecting People to Nature

This spectacular 27-hectare botanic garden on Dharawal Country features an impressive collection of plants from Australia and around the world, including one of Australia’s largest botanic garden rainforest collections. It is distinguished by a number of unique garden collections with their own environmental characteristics and stories to tell. The Garden is also home to a range of wildlife including native bees, ducks, possums, kookaburras, water dragons, to name just a few.
The Garden is an important botanical, educational, and cultural asset within Wollongong. From its highest point at the Gleniffer Brae Manor House you can enjoy views across Wollongong, to the ocean and up to Mount Keira.
Entry is to the Garden is FREE and we’re open from 7 am daily. We are only closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Wollongong Botanic Garden is a beautiful place to explore, but it’s so much more than just a pretty space. We care for, protect, research and display many different types of plants, including several rare, threatened and endangered species. We also manage three other important natural areas within Wollongong – Mount Keira, Puckeys Estate and Korrongulla Wetlands.
What’s on
Wollongong Botanic Garden hosts native plant sales, guided tours, nocturnal wildlife walks, outdoor cinema, art and cultural activities, as well as a series of free activities as part of Botanic Gardens Week at the end of May where you can participate in a rare, behind the scenes tour of the nursery.
Outdoor classrooms don’t come much better. Wollongong’s educators deliver hands-on learning that’s linked to the students’ curriculum and offer seasonal holiday Out of School Hours (OOSH) excursions for Vacation Care providers. Every school holiday, you’ll also find a bunch of fun activities for children to enjoy.
