The botanic garden industry has significant input to Australia’s and New Zealand’s direct economies, with over 30 million visitors annually, employing over 1,800 people and engaging more than 30,000 volunteers. It also has an indirect economic spend estimated to be over $200 million. The flow-on benefits to the economy take place through purchases of intermediate goods and services, such as the purchase of gardening equipment.  

Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand has over 150 members.  Our members are botanic gardens, arboreta, zoos, local councils, cemeteries, nurseries, educational institutions and non-botanic gardens. By uniting botanic gardens and their allied industries, we strengthen the entire horticultural sector.
