Hortis

Hortis is a modern, cloud-based app designed to empower botanic gardens and plant collection holders with intuitive, data-driven collection management. Developed by Species360, a nonprofit and global leader in wildlife conservation tools, Hortis offers a powerful, user-friendly platform to document, analyse, and share plant data, from the field to the glasshouse.

Launched in 2022, Hortis has been rapidly adopted by over 150 institutions across six continents. From small community gardens to major national institutions, teams use Hortis to map collections, manage inventories, streamline workflows, and support conservation goals.

Hortis is proud to work in close partnership with Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ), the peak industry body for botanic gardens in the region. BGANZ plays a vital role in connecting, supporting, and advocating for botanic gardens, their staff, and volunteers across Australia and New Zealand. Through this partnership, we aim to support BGANZ members in adopting best-practice plant collection management, backed by a global nonprofit committed to biodiversity conservation.

From the outset, the Hortis team has actively engaged with the BGANZ community through webinars, in-person events, and collaborative outreach. We’ve listened to the unique needs of gardens in the region and adapted Hortis to meet those needs, whether that’s supporting small teams with limited resources or helping large institutions modernize legacy systems.

Today, over 30 botanic gardens across Australia are using Hortis, making it the leading collection management solution in the region. This momentum is driven by strong community feedback, local success stories, and the shared commitment between Hortis, BGANZ, and its members to advance plant conservation through accessible, modern tools.

Together, Hortis and BGANZ are helping gardens across the region thrive in the digital age, empowering teams to protect, understand, and share the world’s plant biodiversity more effectively than ever before.
