BARB
The BGANZ Arboriculture Group (BARB) is a special interest professional group created to bring together tree management professionals working in botanic gardens across the BGANZ network. It provides a platform for arborists and tree care professionals to share best practices, industry knowledge, and technical expertise in tree management, health, and preservation.
The group aims to:
- strengthen and improve tree management practices across botanic gardens in Australia and New Zealand
- highlight and promote the specialised skills required for botanic gardens arboriculture in caring for our amazing tree collections
- promote and develop our tree collections and the benefits they provide
- provide support to BGANZ member organisations to guide them towards best practice management of their trees.
BARB is a relatively new group, established in 2023.
The BARB committee members are currently: Convenor – Ian Allan (Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah), Deputy – Chelsea Payne (Kings Park & Botanic Garden), Dan Marges (Australian National Botanic Gardens), Neil Bollinger (Orange Botanic Garden), Peter Berbee (Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria), Matt Coyne (Royal Botanic Garden Sydney), Chani Humphries (Geelong City Council) and Laura Williams (Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens).
