We’re delighted to announce that IrisBG will be at the upcoming BGANZ Congress in Canberra, November 2–5, 2025. Representing IrisBG will be Shanna T Jones, who works closely with public gardens across Australia and New Zealand to support plant records management, training, and community engagement. Shanna looks forward to connecting with new and existing users and showcasing how IrisBG can help your garden achieve its goals – from accessioning and mapping to public engagement and conservation.
Joining Shanna at the IrisBG booth will be John Bentley, President of the Friends of Melton Botanic Garden since 2004. With his tenacious drive and ability to unite diverse community groups, John was the driving force behind the creation of Melton Botanic Garden 20 years ago. Today, MBG stands as a stunning, sustainable showcase of Australian plants and those from other dry climates.
John will also be presenting at the Congress in the Planning for the Future track on Tuesday, 4 November at 2:20pm. His talk, Volunteers’ Journey with Plant Collection Records, will share insights from MBG’s volunteer-driven approach to managing plant data and how this collaborative model supports the garden’s long-term vision.
The IrisBG team is deeply grateful for John’s advocacy and his generous willingness to share knowledge with other regional gardens. His leadership embodies the spirit of collaboration and community that defines both BGANZ and IrisBG.
IrisBG is proud to support BGANZ and the incredible work of botanic gardens across Oceania. Earlier this year, BGANZ and IrisBG formed a long-term partnership, combining IrisBG’s expertise in plant collections management with BGANZ’s purpose to uplift botanic gardens, nurture a deeper appreciation for plants, and foster plant conservation. As part of this partnership, BGANZ members receive an exclusive discount on IrisBG licenses and services.
🌿 If you’re attending the Congress, be sure to stop by the IrisBG booth to meet Shanna and John – and join the conversation about how plant records can help your garden thrive.
